Back to School with a Bigger Purpose
As the new school year approaches, we’re celebrating 50 years of Southcentre and 30 years of Big Brothers Big Sisters with a Back to School experience like no other.
From August 21st to September 8th, visit our special interactive display at Sporting Life Court, where shopping meets mentorship—and where you can help shape brighter futures in our community.
What Can You Expect?
When you visit, expect to immerse yourself in an experience that’s both fun and impactful. Our interactive mirror wall invites you to see yourself as a mentor—take a selfie, share it on social, and get inspired to make a difference. Explore a colourful mural created by one of Big Brothers Big Sisters’ own mentees, and read heartwarming stories from those whose lives have been touched by the program.
New School Year. New Journal.
Big Brothers and Big Sisters will also be selling a limited-edition $10 journal designed by one of their very own mentees to raise funds for their programs. Visit the display near Sporting Life and connect with the volunteers to learn more about their mentorship program.
Schedule:
- Thursdays & Fridays from 6:30PM – 8:30PM
- Sunday, August 25 Noon – 4:00PM
- Saturday, September 1 Noon – 4:00PM
- Sunday, September 2 Noon – 4:00PM
You can also find the journals anytime at Motive Art Academy & Think Stunning. Please note Think Stunning is currently relocating and will be open on August 29th on the Lower Level.
Meet the Artist
Artist Chloe W. (age 12) was selected to be featured as a spotlight artist after demonstrating her incredible artistic talents at a Big Brothers Big Sisters event.
Chloe chose to center her artwork around the theme, “with challenges comes stories.” She said “I am excited to show my art in a bigger way. I chose these colours because they are bright and outgoing,” which is consistent with the Big Brothers Big Sisters philosophy of expanding possibilities for children and youth in the community.
About Big Brothers Big Sisters
Big Brothers Big Sisters is Calgary’s leading mentoring charity, matching children and youth facing adversity with volunteers who provide the support, friendship, and guidance they need to thrive. Each mentoring relationship (“match”) expresses care, challenges growth, provides support, shares power and expands possibilities. Matches are supported to ensure positive and meaningful relationships that have a direct and lasting effect on the lives of the children and youth, their families, our mentors, and generations to follow.
See Yourself as a Mentor
Getting involved with Big Brothers Big Sisters is straightforward and deeply rewarding. If you’re ready to make a difference, becoming a mentor is the perfect way to start. You can begin the process online or visit our display at Sporting Life Court to talk to a BBBS representative who can guide you through the next steps.
