    Day of the Dead

Kicking off on October 15th, join us at Southcentre Mall for an unforgettable celebration of Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), a vibrant Mexican holiday that brings families together to honour and remember loved ones who have passed.

Our exciting schedule of events will showcase the richness of Latin American culture through art, music, dance, and more. This year’s event is presented in collaboration with Casa Mexico Foundation as part of Latin American Heritage Month in Canada.

What is Day of the Dead?

    Living with Sensory Sensitivities

    What is Autism?

Autism is considered a neurodevelopmental condition. Developmental differences are often observed within the first three years of life leading to a diagnosis (however it is not uncommon for a diagnosis to be made later in life). Autism changes the way the brain processes information (which is why you might see the term “neurodiverse” used to refer to autistic individuals). An understanding of support needs assists autistic individuals, their family, and those that may be in their network (friends, caregivers, teachers, health professionals, employers, etc.) in knowing what accommodations may be important to support them in contributing meaningfully and living a good life. The specific “cause” of autism is unknown, though genetic, environmental, developmental, and other factors continue to be explored.

    Unique Differences

Autism is said to be on a spectrum due to the vast differences in presentation between each person. Some of the most commonly observed differences are noted in: socialization, speech, and communication (including non-verbal communication), repetitive/restrictive interests, and differences in sensory processing (i.e., a reduced / heightened sensitivities to smell, touch, vision, taste, and/or hearing). Some might also experience motor challenges, gastrointestinal issues, and atypical sleeping/eating habits.
